sytë - hate me back - music video

“The opposite of love is indifference, not hate. Hate is the sister of love. I wish you could just hate me. At least I’d know I could somehow make my way back to you, because I still exist if you think of me—even if you only think of me poorly.” Nita Kaja, vocalist of the New York City based indie-pop duo SYTË says about her yearning for connection, even if only through conflict.  SYTË, which is Albanian for “eyes”, pronounced “sight” is a creative collaboration between husband and wife duo Nita and Drin Tashi, a duo known for their unique blend of indie pop, alternative R&B, and electronic elements.  Following the success of lead single Stay With Me, which landed placements on Spotify’s editorial playlists DOPAMINE and All New Pop. SYTË returns with their hauntingly poignant new single Hate Me Back and debut of their music video, directed by Indie Studios.

Defined by contrast yet bound by harmony, Nita and Drin’s synergy—extrovert and introvert, sun and moon, yin and yang—shapes their unmistakable sound. On Hate Me Back, SYTË invites listeners into the aching space between love and indifference deepening the emotional arc of the record with striking vulnerability. The music video, which was captured on 16mm film by cinematographer Andrew White, tells the story of a meet-cute gone awry and explores the sexual tension that emerges in the grey area between love & hate.
